HSR Open Thread

NOTE: We've moved! Visit us at the California High Speed Rail Blog.

I won't be posting until Monday, as I'm spending the weekend at the California Democratic Party Convention in San José. Last year's CDP convention passed a strong resolution in favor of the high speed rail project, and hopefully I can help convince some Dems to pitch in their support for the vote this fall.

That won't be the only thing I'm there to do - my other area of focus right now is activism on the state budget. If you're interested, you can follow the convention action at Calitics, where I am a contributing editor.

And if you aren't interested, but want to talk about high speed rail, well, here's an open thread. Have fun!

I'm moving back to Sacramento in May after college is done. I'm wondering what I can do while I'm there to help get HSR passed?
I've done door-to-door campaigning/fundraising before.
Are there any organizations in Sacto already that I could join up with to help inform the public?

An excellent question. Right now we're working on building some activist networks to help mobilize support for high speed rail. This blog is intended to push out important information and ideas, but it's not alone going to energize voters.

Keep reading this site - as organizations get active, I will definitely be telling you about it.

There are some groups already out there that you might investigate. The Rail Passenger Association of California has been active on HSR and has a strong Sacramento presence, as does a similar group, Train Riders Association of California. Those of you in the SF Bay Area should contact the BayRail Alliance.
